John R. Cascarano received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Montclair State University in 2004 and his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2007. Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Cascarano served a Judicial Clerkship with the Honorable Ronald G. Marmo, J.S.C. in the Passaic County Superior Court from 2007 through 2008.
Following the conclusion of his Clerkship, Mr. Cascarano was an Assistant Prosecutor in the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor. There he spent time in the Appellate Division, where he worked on behalf of the State in matters such as Post Conviction Relief and Municipal Appeals before the Superior Court, as well as direct appeals of trial and sentencing issues before the New Jersey Appellate Division, and was on a brief to matter which was appealed to the New Jersey State Supreme Court. He then was assigned to the Juvenile and then Trial Units, where he represented the State on criminal matters in every step from Grand Jury to Trial.
Upon leaving the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Cascarano served as Deputy Chief Counsel to the New Jersey State Assembly Minority Office. There he provided counsel to the caucus on legal and legislative matters, and served as ranking staff on committees such as the Assembly Judiciary Committee and Regulatory and Gaming Oversight Committee. He then became Assistant Counsel to Governor Chris Christie, as part of the Governor’s Authorities Unit, where he served as the Governor’s overseer and liaison to various State and bi-State agencies such as the Delaware River Port Authority and the New Jersey Pinelands Commission.
After several years in Trenton, Mr. Cascarano became an in-house attorney at the largest transportation agency in the State, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. There Mr. Cascarano primarily handled litigation matters, coordinating with outside counsel regarding resolutions, settlement, and management of the same, and personally litigated Special Civil matters. He also performed various other in-house functions, such as the procurement of contracts for towing services, and acted as the Law Department’s social media representative.
Mr. Cascarano currently practices in many areas, ranging from commercial transactions and litigation, real estate, wills, and family matters. Comfortable in a court room and committed to public service, he currently serves as an Assistant Prosecutor for the Borough of Haledon, and Alternate Prosecutor for the City of Hoboken. Elected to Caldwell Borough Council in 2014, he serves as Chair of the Borough’s Finance Committee, and Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee. He is also a member of Nutley UNICO.
